Module 15-Activity 6: Developing activities in progression for early numeracy

 Design and share at least one activity in progression for Preschool-1 (3 to 4 years old children) and Preschool-2 (4 to 5 years old children) for literacy or numeracy development.

  1. Mathematics activities for kids make learning math fun and engaged. Avoid frustration and help children learn to love mathematics. For example stories about math that will inspire kids to love numbers. Just like, "One day i went to the zoo. I saw two tigers, three lions, four platypuses, five zebras, six foxes, seven kangaroos, eight goats, nine hippos, and ten wallabies.

  10. For numeracy development, the teachers can use seeds,leaves glass balls and bamboo sticks.Making different group according to the number of pupils, the teacher can teach activitiy based progression for early numeracy.

  15. One activity is joining two halves to make a whole thing. The second activity is a play where all the children will make a circle and run in circular way when I will tell a number they will make groups having the same number of members.

    It is very important to make our students familiar with counting numbers specially when they are new comers.
    We can take the help of various stories, rhymes, games, group activities related and using counting things like pebbles, toy animals, fruits, marbles etc.
    We shall have to take minimum numbers of according to the number of students that counting could be cover by all our learners with in stipulated time.
    We must have to use natural, harmless, nontoxic, big size items that would not be throat chocking too.

Activity for numeracy development of pre school students:-Objective-counting and identifying numbers:-Draw ten circles on a paper .Put dots with different numbers between one to ten in each circle. Then bring ten paper cups and write the different numbers between one to ten on the back sides of each paper cups. Now tell to children to count the dots and keep the appropriate paper cup on the particular number of a circle.

  29. Tell a story of crow and clay pot. Take some card. Show them different pictures of crow with red blue black. And ask them to identify the colour of crow.
    Take 10 pieces of chalk and ask the students to count. Mix the full size chalk with half size and ask to pick the small one.

    Pronunciation of familiar words, items nearer to the child etc.
    Numeracy-
    Counting of fingers, seeds, sticks, petals, playing games like 'Hop n jump', other local jumping games etc.
